The dlrs 220 million multipurpose stadium is the largest of the 10 World Cup stadiums in terms of its seating capacity. Its eagle-shaped roof design captures the linear beauty of a traditional Korean house.

Gwangju World Cup Stadium.

Gwangju is located 329 kilometers (203 miles) southwest of Seoul and is home to the annual Kimchi festival, which celebrates the traditional Korean dish of fermented and pickled vegetables.

The design of the stadium recalls the sailboats that symbolize Incheon's historical role as Korea's leading maritime gateway.
Incheon is said to be the birthplace of soccer in Korea. A group of children imitated crewmen from a visiting British warship playing kick-about in 1882. The sailors left a couple of leather soccer balls behind when they left and the sport kicked on.
Incheon is known to the world for a large-scale amphibious landing assault launched by Allied troops during the Korean War in 1950. The assault, led by U.S. Gen. Douglas McArthur, turned the tide of the war.

It overlooks a scenic coastline and sits in the shadows of Mount Halla, one of South Korea's highest peaks.
The dlrs 85.3 million stadium is designed to symbolize one of Jeju's many secondary volcanoes while its roof represents a net flung from a fishing boat.

The dlrs 110 million stadium is designed to incorporate the linear look of a Korean zither and a traditional Jeonju fan and the Sot-Dae, a traditionally Korean image of a bird on a long pole facing the North Star. The stadium opened on Nov.8, 2001.

Suwon, 44 kilometers (27 miles) south of Seoul, is the seat of populous Kyonggi province surrounding Seoul. The city hosted several matches during the 2001 Confederations Cup. The stadium was opened May 13, 2001.

The design borrowed its theme from the ancient Suwon Fortress. The traditional curved roofs found in Korean architecture combine to form a majestic covering for the stadium.
