Stanford 20/20 Blows WICB
COMMENTARY
FOR TUESDAY 15TH AUGUST, 2006 By Andre E. Baptiste
===================================
Warning, Warning, Stanford is coming!!!!
P Allen Stanford, and while the "P" seems to be a well kept secret.
It may well hold significance as, Professor Stanford, may soon become a
Prophet of Doom on the West Indies Cricket Board, but not all by his own
actions but by the West Indies Cricket Board reckless casual behaviour.
Especially if his glorified success leads to any more or the lap sipping
lip movements from several cricket journalists in the Caribbean notably
from
Trinidadians inclined to recover any financial losses from diminished
funding from their local media organizations.
There is nothing wrong with giving youngsters money to spend, but you do
not give your children more than they can handle to spoil them and just
win their love, in time the money finishes and the education remains
unresolved and they become bad tempered and ill discipline.
I had the fortune or misfortune to return to
the successful
that winning a lot of money does not curb initial bad habits.
At the waiting hall in the
International Airport, there was some stroppy behaviour between two of
the younger Guyanese players, which bordered on getting out of hand. In
fact one player (much larger than the other) raised his hand at the
other, with obscenities flying all around them.
And while that in itself is bad, the fact that nothing was done for over
25 minutes, while other player either laughed or did not care, says a
lot about money spoiling children, and making fools of young boys
wanting to be men before their time.
Where in all this was the Captain, and West Indies vice captain
Ramnaresh Sarwan, he was
busy playing on the computer and never once
intervened, the Manager on the other hand eventually called for calm,
but the cursing continued for over 5 minutes, and he (the Manager) never
left his seat.
It is shameful incidents like this, that remind us of how important it
is to have good Management and high standards and that winning on the
field does not guarantee you or anyone a good life. Overnight success
stories are filled with sour endings and let us hope that this great
wealth does not spoil
Perhaps Stanford and his team would be best advice to ask for a code of
ethics to be adhered, maybe even a fairplay trophy
and some internal
training for teams, because the image done on Monday in front of around
200 people was deplorable.
Or maybe all of this is merely just a single bad day for persons who
have won a lot of money and should be happy and celebrating.
Long may 20/20 continue, but long may the West Indies Cricket Board also
realize they have to make an input. Because at the moment Stanford is
dominating far too too much, and the winners seem to
have caught on to
this in a negative way.
This is Andre Errol Baptiste saying - Have no Fear, the Fearless One is
here.
